A Girls Guide To The Perfect Wedding Gift

By: Anna Stenning

There is nothing more exciting than seeing someone very close to you announcing his or her wedding. Men have a tendency to take a backbench on the event, with the best man organising the stag night. However, women are more enthusiastic about the special day, with many planning the wedding outfit and make-up. Most of all buying wedding gifts for the happy couple is the point that many people find difficult. What can you buy and how far in advance?

Many people will know that shopping is more for women than men. All too often you will see a couple shopping together with the man looking bored and frustrated, whilst waiting for his partner to try on her selection of clothing or shoes. However, shopping for wedding gifts is a different issue altogether, because you are looking for that perfect gift that will remain timeless and symbolising the special union. Sounds simple, but trust me you will need to have selected this in advance.

With this in mind, you should not be afraid to select a common gift that others are likely to buy, because the chances are the newlyweds are more likely to find many uses in them for years to come. People who have bought unromantic gifts need not worry either, as mentioned before the couple are likely to find some good uses to it. One thing that does come to mind is that a gift can say a lot about the person who has given you the gift, as in it shows how much time and effort has been placed upon selecting the gift.

Wedding gifts do need a lot of thought put into it if people are looking to buy something special to commemorate the event. Some couples like to register their gifts, so if you are looking to buy that special gift then you have no worries picking it out from the registry list. However, if you have left it too late to pick from the registry, then perhaps you should take an inspiration from friends or relatives. Many will understand that to find the right gift, it is always good to approach someone who is closer to the source, such as the parents, relatives or siblings.

Most importantly of all trying to work out how much you want to spend on the gift and getting it early. Never leave this to the last minute. Some couples provide a time limit of a year after marriage to allow people to purchase their gift. However, the chances of you finding the perfect gift after the ceremony are very slim if you have not found the time to buy a gift beforehand.
When you select a present think about finding something sentimental, neutral and long lasting. Sometimes buying a fine wine that will mature over the years is a great gift for symbolising a long lasting relationship and can even be given with a sentimental note attached to it to open on their anniversary. Such gifts need time so allow yourself time out to choose a gift, making sure to think about what the couple may like to enjoy together.
