Buying the Perfect Stroller

By: Lorna Mclaren

When it comes to baby strollers the one that will suit you best will very much be dictated by your current lifestyle. If you are a very active and sport oriented person then the assumption is that you will go back to that lifestyle on some level when baby comes along. Maybe you want to take up a more active life now that you have a wee one to consider. Whatever you need there is a stroller out there for you.

For the more active and sporty a jogger style stroller may be the right choice. If you take your running seriously you can still take your little one along for the ride. Buying a jogger style stroller will get you a robust and hard wearing stroller with a choice of fixed or swivel front wheel.

Whether you pick fixed wheel or swivel wheel depends on what you are going to do with it and where you are going to use it. A fixed wheel will track straight and is favored by the more serious runners where a swivel wheel makes the stroller turn more easily. A fixed wheel will track across sand and snow more easily whereas a swivel wheel will get stuck.

If you find yourself with a need for a double stroller then again you have a choice. A side-by-side model can be practical for being able to keep a close eyes on those little treasures but can prove to be cumbersome as you try and negotiate the aisles in stores and in some cases the doorways to the stores. A tandem stroller puts one child in front of the other, which means that one is further away from you as you walk. The advantage of this style is that it is really no wider that a single stroller and is therefore more able to get through those shopping crowds, aisles and doorways.

When it comes to being able to fold your stroller for transport or storage then you should consider carefully what space you have available. If you have a small trunk in your car then opting for an umbrella folding style should give you the best options for being able to fit the stroller in. If space is not an issue then a stroller that simply folds flat could be a consideration.

The trend in wheels is aluminium alloys and many of the strollers available come with these as standard. These wheels will not rust and they are about 1lb lighter than their steel counterparts. If you do opt for steel this will mean a lower stroller price but higher maintenance. Hint; if you have steel wheels and live in a salty area be sure to rinse any salt residue off your wheel after each trip out.
