STOP ECZEMA IN YOUR INFANT NOW
What You Need To Know about the Cause, Symptoms and Treatment for Eczema in Infants
WHAT IS ECZEMA
Firstly eczema is not a contagious condition. It is commonly described as a skin condition manifesting as an inflammation of the epidermis or the most outer layer of our skin.
Eczema is a fairly common condition in infants. The problem with infants is they can't tell you anything. Thus it is up to mum & dad to find the cause of the skin problem and to control it.
There are three major types of eczema found in infants:-
Atopic Eczema or sometimes called Atopic Dermatitis.
Infants with atopic eczema are believed to be highly reactive to allergens caused by an herediary or genetic pre-disposition. The immune system consequently works overtime which then produces irritated and sensitive skin.
In infants Atopic Eczema is usually worse behind the knees, elbows, neck, front of ankle & wrist.
It needs to be kept moist with cream in order that it does not cause skin to become dry & crack.
It also appears mainly as red bloches on other parts of the body including legs, arms, face, trunk & even the top of the head & sometimes in the ears.
Contact Dermatitis or Eczema
This occurs when the infant's skin comes into contact with particular
chemicals or foods. This type of eczema can be restricted to some degree. The food, chemical or irritant can be removed for a period of time & then re-introduced in order to discover which foods or irritants are causing aggravation to the skin.
The usual causes of Contact Eczema in babies range from:
an allergic reaction to something in their environment
a reaction to a particular food
a reaction to soaps or detergents
Seborrhoeic Eczema
This is generally found in infants under twelve months of age. It has the common name of cradle cap. It can cause the infant to have greasy or flaky peeling of the scalp & sometimes in the eyebrows & on the face. This condition must not be allowed to develop into severe cradle cap. There are several other much less common forms of eczema. In infants one must be careful of fungal conditionsassociated with the eczema which will need to be attended to by your general practitioner. However the good news is that Eczema can be controlled and need not take control of the infant's life.
