Use scrapbooking to preserve all your personal and family memories. Make an attractive and intriguing piece of family art and you can create something that can be passed on through generations, as well as being able to show off your creative side.
In order to start scrapbooking, you need to gather materials. Lurking in the attic may be shoeboxes and dresser drawers with long-forgotten pictures. Don’t be afraid to really dig in and see what you have to work with!
Categorizing can help you when keep things in order. You can use these categories to create themes for your scrapbooks. There are many possible themes: trips, school, games and athletics, special dances, or other reminiscences you want to keep. Select one idea to base your first scrapbook on and don't stray from it. This aids in keeping your scrapbook meaningful and cohesive.
Select a main idea for your scrapbook and then choose your highest quality photos for each topic you want to cover. The “best” pictures are not always the most aesthetically pleasing or the most posed, they just need to be ones that best encapsulate the mood you are trying to create. It's okay if the photo is off-centered, fuzzy, or overexposed; errors can always be cropped out. Note that the photographs you preserved for your scrapbook can be used to fill up the pages efficiently.
Don't forget that you can use other memorabilia, not just pictures, that go along with the theme you have chosen. Adding items such as ticket stubs, a playbill, or pressed flowers can make your scrapbook pages more decorative and meaningful.
Arranging the layout of your page is the next step. This is the most challenging, but the most rewarding part of creating a scrapbook. Really let your imagination run wild! Make sure that your page layout is creative. You will want to design your scrapbook pages to tell a story and have a consistent theme. Use colored paper as background for your pages, scraps that you can make a collage out of, pieces of felt, fabric, or other unconventional background materials. Anything is fair game when you start to embellish your page.
Your backgrounds can make the photos interesting by just laying them in different positions Before you stick anything to a page, move the pictures, papers and borders around until you find what looks best to you. You will have to do a lot of cropping of photos, cutting of edges, and reworking of your other mementos to get it to look and feel the way you want it to. This is the part of the process that is the most time-consuming, but it is also not the one that you want to rush. After all, the actual look of the scrapbook will be what makes it the most memorable.
The internet has several layouts that you can choose from just research. Ultimately, you should use whatever layout is the most pleasing to you, but there is no shame in looking into pre-made layout guides for inspiration.
Add your final touches. Here is where you would enter the text that would explain your photographs, glitter, gems, buttons or other interesting additions to your page.
You should keep in mind that scrapbooking is not just about the final product, but also about the work and love that you put into it in the process. Put love and care into your scrapbook, and you will be really pleased with the result. Enjoy creating your scrapbook!
