Do You Know Why You Need To Join A Forum?

By: Randolf Smith

There's several reasons to join an Internet forum and become a productive, helpful member, including the free exchange of solutions to problems and marketing advice. Once you've created your product, ebook, service or software, and built your website sales page, you have to drive traffic (customers) to it and have several streams of income in order to survive.

How do you do this with a forum membership? Let's find out.

First, do a search for membership sites, or forums, focused on your niche. Unless your niche is really narrow, you will find hundreds, or more, forums dedicated to your subject. Visit several and select the one or two that seem to suit your style and attitude. You are looking for help, advice and marketing opportunities.

When you first join your forums, browse the topics for a day or two, getting a feel for the members and their helpfulness. In any forum you will find those who offer valuable advice and resources and those who whine or are negative about everything. You are learning who to follow and who to avoid.

Once you get comfortable with your new virtual community, add a signature to your posts that includes a one-sentence description of your site or product and a link to your sales page. Make sure your sig shows up on every post you make, usually an option in a profile page. Don't make your posts an advertisement for your site; let your sig do that for you.

Most forums have an "Introduce Yourself" category that you can use to announce your move into their online community. Provide some information about your background and what your focus is. If you are uncertain about how to do this, read some of the ones posted before you arrived.

Become a valuable member of the forum. Post insightful solutions to other member's questions and ask some good questions yourself. If you have a confusion about some process or technique, you can bet that there's hundreds out there with the same problem. Don't be shy about asking questions. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

New members to forums are often uncertain about asking for help or advice because the community's "experts" seem so knowledgeable. Keep in mind that every single Internet Marketer, including the current crop of gurus, was a confused and somewhat lost newbie when they started out. Most will be helpful and happy to lead you out of the same confusion they outgrew before you got to their forum.

Now that you've taken some action and actually stuck your toe in the forum door, so to speak, relax, look around and explore your first venture into a powerful marketing community.
