The Apple iPhone 3G - 1 day to launch, how will the mobile world react?!

By: Matt Sharp

Tomorrow sees the release of the brand new Apple iPhone 3G, one of the most anticipated mobile phones in history. But how big IS the stir it's creating? What effects is it having in the world of mobile phones?
Apple iPhone 3G - a new evolution!
Tomorrow marks the release date of a brand new evolution of one of the most talked about mobile phones in history: the iPhone. You see, tomorrow, there'll be a new version of it, aimed to address the complaints some people had about the first iPhone. Called the Apple iPhone 3G, you can probably imagine what major addition Apple have made to let it compete better in the world of mobile phones. That's right, it's 3G, meaning that finally, an iPhone can compete on a level playing field with all the mobile phones around it. At last, it can connect to the internet as fast as its rivals. The other big addition to the Apple iPhone 3G is GPS, finally making the Google Maps application something worth having, because now, as well as finding where things are on your mobile phone, the Apple iPhone 3G can even take you to those places!
Of course, it's not all perfect, and just like its predecessor, the Apple iPhone 3G still has a lot of flaws (although, of course, Apple fans will immediately say these aren't flaws, and people are wrong and bad for saying they are flaws...). Take for example, the camera. A recent study found that 47% of mobile phone users say a camera higher than 2 megapixels is a MUST HAVE. Apple seem to believe otherwise, and Apple fans have been heard to say that mobile phone users don't need any more than 2 megapixels. And so, the Apple iPhone 3G, just like its forerunner, has a 2 megapixel camera, MINUS flash, autofocus and video. A camera of that spec is really only good for sending MMS messages to other mobile phones... so it's a shame that the Apple iPhone 3G won't send or receive MMS messages!
One thing is for certain, though: the Apple iPhone 3G is definitely putting the wind up other people who make mobile phones. Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung... the Apple iPhone 3G has REALLY made them up their game!
Bring on the competition - rivals to the Apple iPhone 3G
Yup, all the big mobile phone makers are racing to get rivals to the Apple iPhone 3G out there, but the one that could potentially have the most mind-blowing offering is Sony Ericsson, if the rumours about the so-called 'Hecaro' are true. If they ARE indeed true, then the Sony Ericsson Hecaro (its development codename) could well be one of the single most mind-blowing, jaw-dropping, perception-altering mobile phones ever made. The alleged spec of this monster easily match, outclass and obliterate the specs on the Apple iPhone 3G, with 5 megapixel camera, a brand new, fully touch-based interface, awesome music player, HSDPA data access, built in GPS and a screen as big as the Apple baby. Put simply, if it's all true, Sony Ericsson are soon about to announce one of the best mobile phones ever made!
