Tignes: For Dedicated Skiers Only

By: Robert Melkonyan

Well, there are several cutesy reasons, such as having a new cultural experience, seeing a traditional European village, taking pictures of beautiful scenery. These are all well and good but there is no exhilarating breathlessness and no pumping of adrenaline. Ski resorts are made for skiing. Fortunately, there is one ski resort that is dedicated to this exciting winter sport: the Tignes in France.

Exciting runs for advanced skiers

The Tignes ski resort owns two crucial traits that intermediate and expert skiers look for. First, the Tignes ski resort has first-rate snow. No good skiing can happen without this abundance of snow. Fortunately, the glacier ensures that Tignes will always have enough snow. And second crucial trait is that the ski resort has numerous, varied, and challenging terrains. In fact, the Tignes is half of the Espace Killy. The other half is the Val d'Isere. And if you have been skiing for a long time, you already know that conquering the Espace Killy is part of your skiing life. In the world of skiing, it is an important rite of passage. If you have been to this skiing Mecca before, then you already know the existence of the Grande Motte glacier. Certainly, you will be looking forward to visiting this huge glacier formation again.

Admittedly, the Tignes ski resort, elevated at almost 7,000 feet above sea level, is not for the faint of heart. The skiing beginners may find other ski resorts less intimidating. But if the beginners are interested, they can advance their skiing skills by joining one of the several skiing and snowboarding schools in the area.

Delicious accommodations for your skiing adventure

For the expert skiers with adventurous spirits, the Tignes ski resort is an excellent holiday destination. To attract more skiers, especially those who also enjoy good food, the ski resort underwent an extensive evolution to provide more restaurants and après skis, along with underground car parks and renovated architectural structures. Some of the recommended restaurants are the Lo Solis, the Escale Blanche, and the Chalet Bouvier.

What about accommodations? Finding a place to stay and sleep has never been a problem in Tignes. This ski resort has numerous hotels, motels, chalets, apartments, condos, and lodging houses to accommodate every visiting skier. The accommodations are comfortable and complemented by the courteous staff and thoughtful services. Many hotels offer half-board stays so that skiers will always enjoy delicious breakfast buffets. The best part is that the accommodations are very affordable. This is Tignes is the favorite of dedicated skiers who are having budget holidays.

A true skiing adventure

Unlike many other touristy resorts, the Tignes ski resort caters to what its visitors really need - exciting ski runs. And when the sun rules high in the sky, the beautiful snowy terrain simply begs to be conquered. There are several tough off-slope ski runs. There are electrifying off-piste descents. And there are numerous challenging terrains. Boundaries are few and skiing is mostly freestyle.

To reach Tignes ski resort, the visitors can fly in to the nearest airport, the Chambery Airport. It is also possible to reach Tignes via the train that leaves London. But it is not recommended to drive because of the difficult roads.
