Why are people so obese?

By: Farida Riyasat

It's a worldwide epidemic! People just keep getting bigger and bigger! China, Japan and even Korea, who have never before had to worry about obesity, are now seeing the numbers on the scales rise higher and higher. No one seems to be immune to the ever increasing waistline. How come we are becoming so fat as a species? Poor nutrition can be the only answer. We are not taking enough care of our nutrition ,actually, severely lacking in caring about our eating patterns ,food preferences and quantity of food intake. It is easy to see why obesity is on the rise when fast food restaurants are in almost every town, portion sizes continue to increase in size, and foods contain fat, sugar, and preservatives. Nevertheless, there's an answer and it lies in nutritional awareness.
Food As Fuel
Today we keep our focus on food and it's taste, as well as the quantity of it we eat, and we often overlook the basic fact that food is just our fuel. Food is what gives us the energy we all need to sustain us throughout the day. When our bodies have an overabundance of food, it is stored as fat. When taking fat into consideration, our body's are merely acting as they were designed. It is not our body's way of getting back at us or being spiteful. Although fat is generally thought of as a bad thing, it actually has many positive uses including providing insulation for your bones and organs and keeps the body from starving. When people eat too much without exercising, the excess food goes straight into fat. With the vast amounts that people eat in today's world, fat builds up alarmingly quick.
Balance Is The Core
Excellent nutrition cannot be attained without balance. You'll not have to deny yourself the foods, treats, and even desserts you love. These should be sensibly balanced so that you don't end up gaining too much weight. When taking nutrition into consideration, you should eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean meats as well as taking some supplements such as multi-vitamins. You can reward yourself with treats and desserts after you have done very well with your nutrition through the week. Assuming that you exercise enough to burn off the excess calories, you can maintain a desirable weight just by making sure that you have at least one week of healthy eating between one or two days of "splurging".
Are You Overweight?
When you are overweight, proper nutrition and exercise can help you lose that weight.
A balanced diet means that you eat smaller amounts but more often. (for example, eating six small snacks/meals each day) and take at least a half hour of exercise 3 to 5 times a week, and that weight will come off in no time.
Unfortunately, there is no silver bullet for weight loss. You have to work at it. But you don't have to kill yourself with exercise like the people on the TV informercials do. If you have balanced nutrition a daily walk around town will burn enough calories to help in shedding those unwanted pounds.
