There has been so much discussion about the duplicate content penalty. Many seem to fear they should not submit to lots of quality directories because of this.

Here is a question I revieved in my email the other day.

My question:? when you use an article submitter program like Article
Submitter are you submitting the exact SAME article to each of the article directories ?? If Yes, then that would be submitting duplicate content which, if I understand correctly, Google can detect and will penalize you by either de-indexing your site or blog thats getting the backlinks and traffic, OR if they don't de-index it they will just not give the site/blog?page rank.? Is that what happens ?

OR, when you submit an article to, say?100 article directories, do you
first have to spin the article into 100 different versions of the article
so that it's not duplicate content ?? If that's the case, does the
article submitter software submit all 100 different articles, but each one
to a different?article directory?

I don't know the answers to that question and yet I suspect that most
article marketers DON'T make 100 different versions of an article.? I'm
guessing that they submit the?SAME article to 100 different
article directories and hope that Google doesn't catch that they have sent
out duplicate content.

Now that brings up another question though, because if you really can
submit the same article (unspun)?to many directories, then when would you
need to use article spinning software to rewrite an article?

Clearly I'm UNclear about all this.??"

Here is my reply,

You can submit the same article to as many directories as you wish. But here is what I have found. Low quality directories are not that effective so I now only take the time to submit them to the top 25 directories using the ArticleStars Submitter Pro.

I have not yet had a problem submitting the same article and my blogs have not been de-indexed. Checkout the thread link that I put in the first post here in this thread.

Sometimes people will change the title and a little bit of the first paragraph so that if they get their article listed on the same page from google from two different directories it looks like two different articles.

The article submitter will submit whatever article you have in queue to whatever directory you are submitting to. This is not a completely automated process. Many people spin an article into as many versions as they can and try to make each version unique. If this is done I would try and change it enough that it does not appear to be the same article. Many people change the keywords around so they can target different keywords. I use to do this but don't anymore. I find it easy just to write a new article around the same topic.

The duplicate content myth was started a long time ago by people who knew a little (and as the saying goes, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing).

If you show the same content under different URL's from the same domain, then it can cause issues , But idntical content across lots of sites is not an issue really.

Google filter content to ensure they do not show identical content. Simple as that really.

While getting your article out to hundreds or thousands of sites might not hurt you, it might also be the case that link juice from many of them is seen as minimal (if at all)

In link building, quality trumps quantity everytime.

ALTHOUGH!

I admit to using masses and masses and masses of submissions to directories, article sites etc in order to HIDE the quality links I have that are doing the job.

I have sites ranking for tough industry phrases in sex toy and mortgage markets that are doing it with less than 50 decent links. A backlink check will show like 5000 backlinks though!

Well you don't want to make life too easy for the opposition do you

Hello,

All of your articles should get posted as long as they meet the particular terms of service for the site you are submitting to. You should be able to submit your article to all of the sites that come with the submitter.

Article sites and directory sites that do not reject any submissions are generally poor quality sites. Editorial integrity is what sets a WEB2.) site apart from the spammy rubbish.

Paul and I have been talking about this some...

I have a 'test' article directory...

It has twice as many links as the opposite directory... just as good a name, and I have done very little marketing to either.

The quality directory makes twice as much money, gets twice as much traffic as the quantity directory. I've been testing this for over a year and a half.

Junk in equals junk out. I believe in early computer jargon they called it something like GIGO 'garbage in, garbage out'

I sold the ones I was running, as well as getting out of the directories I had.

I am setting up quite a few in the next 18 months though

The articlesites are part of a far larger project, so we realy only need the rights to use the articles. I can't say too much about it.

I constantly run my own sites to test the algorithms, once I am done, they have no use to me, so i get rid of them.
